School Climate Survey Overview

In 2019, House Bill (H.B.) 120: Student and School Safety Assessment created the School Climate Survey to measure and assess stakeholder perceptions of school environments throughout Utah in all K-12 public schools. Previously, Local Education Agencies (LEAs) administered the survey in the spring of odd-numbered years (opposite the Teacher Engagement Survey), beginning in 2021. The survey became optional with the passage of H.B. 182 (2024) Student Survey Amendments.

Survey Administration

Parent consent must be collected during student registration of the same year the survey is administered per Utah Code Section 53E-9-203. LEAs that are interested in administering the model School Climate Survey should email SchoolSafetyPrograms@schools.utah.gov for technical assistance.
